1924, Romania's first international rugby steps!
The Olympic tournament from 1924 represents a real adventure and will be realized only after the organization of a financing campaign, a form of crowdfunding ahead of its time, in which the players will also participate! Boycotted by the British, the matches will offer the opportunity to reunite the teams from the 1919 Inter-Allied Games: France, USA, Romania. After three days of traveling by train, the Romanian team arrived almost at the last minute on May 4, 1924 in Colombes, in France, the host country, to play against France. On May 11, they will face the USA. Despite two defeats, Romania wins the bronze medal and, at the same time, the first medal in any discipline for this country, which will win many others later. The "final", won in general amazement by the Americans against France, after an extremely violent match on and off the field, was described by a French-American leader as "what could be worse without knives or guns".

As a Latin country in Eastern Europe, Romania was initiated into rugby before the First World War thanks to Romanian students returning from France. The sport has not stopped developing, despite the distances and the reduced number of possible international meetings. After defeating France for the first time in 1960, Romania did not stop knocking on the door of the 5 Nations Tournament, until the end of the 80s, to get a place, a claim justified at that time by results and a reputation to match .
